The Interreg VI-A NEXT Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine 2021-2027 Programme continues to support initiatives that enhance community resilience and preparedness. The BE PREPARED project, officially launched under the Programme, represents a significant step in strengthening disaster response capacities in Satu Mare County (Romania) and Ivano-Frankivsk Region (Ukraine).
The project, led by the National Red Cross Society – Satu Mare Branch, focuses on equipping communities—particularly young generations—with first aid and disaster response skills. The launch event gathered key stakeholders and local authorities, emphasizing the importance of coordinated efforts in disaster preparedness. Maskulik Csaba, City Manager of Satu Mare, highlighted the project’s impact, as 5,000 children in Satu Mare County will receive first aid and disaster response training.
The BE PREPARED project is designed to increase regional preparedness for risks such as floods, droughts, extreme temperatures, landslides, and industrial or forest fires. Key activities include:
🔹 Establishing six disaster response detachments – three in Romania and three in Ukraine
🔹 Training 480 adults in first aid and disaster response
🔹 Educating 10,000 children in disaster prevention and intervention, including 5,000 in Romania
With the support of the Satu Mare County School Inspectorate and 80 schools, the project ensures broad participation and long-term impact, fostering a culture of preparedness among younger generations.
The Joint Secretariat welcomes the launch of the BE PREPARED project as a testament to cross-border cooperation and shared responsibility in disaster risk reduction. By equipping communities with essential skills, the project contributes to building a stronger, safer future for the regions involved.
We look forward to witnessing the results of this initiative and the positive impact it will have on disaster preparedness across borders.
