From May 18–20, 2026, as part of the EFFUSE-win project, in collaboration with Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, a three-day educational and adventure program took place in the vicinity of the Bodrog River. The event was attended by 16 students from the Elementary School in Rozhanovce.
Over the course of three days, the children had the opportunity to explore life in nature both on land and in water, during sunny days and dark nights. The children overcame their fear of the unknown, learned to perceive nature with all their senses, and got to know both tame and wild animals.
As part of the educational activities, they had the opportunity to observe various species of invertebrates and vertebrates up close and try out selected field methods used in zoology. They learned about the work of entomologists in catching insects in a meadow and monitoring moths, participated in the humane capture and banding of birds, and also tried collecting ticks using the flagging method. They then observed the collected samples under binocular magnifiers.
The experiential part of the program was complemented by a night walk through the forest and a river rafting trip, during which the children pushed themselves and gained new experiences through direct contact with nature.
The program provided students with new insights into the natural environment of the Bodrog River, a wealth of unforgettable experiences, and supported the main goal of the EFFUSE-win project—to bring the natural sciences closer to young people engagingly and experientially.
