1st International Woodworking Workshop

As part of the cross-border project “DRANICA.24 – Promoting the Immaterial Wooden Heritage of the Carpathian Euroregion. A Technical Handbook for Traditional Woodworking” (Project Ref: HUSKROUA/23/RS/2.2/021), the initiative’s inaugural technical workshop will officially commence in May 2026.

The “DRANICA.24” project is dedicated to safeguarding the intangible wooden heritage of the Carpathian region. By systematically collecting, documenting, and disseminating traditional knowledge, the initiative bridges academic research with active community engagement. Its core objective is to ensure that traditional woodworking endures not merely as historical data, but as a living, vibrant cultural practice.

Throughout the project’s implementation, a total of eight specialized workshops (consisting of five international and three national events) will be organized. These sessions will serve as collaborative hubs, uniting researchers, heritage experts, master craftsmen and regional cooperation practitioners.

The first workshop is scheduled for 22 May 2026 in the village of Săpânța, Maramureș County, Romania with the participation of master craftsman Mr. Stan Ioan.

Key thematic areas will include traditional wood-carving techniques, including Merry Cemetery-style crosses, roadside crosses, and traditional handicrafts.

These workshops are technical events dedicated to a specialized audience and are not intended for the general public.

The workshop is organized and coordinated by Muzeul Maramureșan, located at Piața Libertății 15, 435500 Sighetu Marmației, Maramureș, Romania.
