The HUSKUARADIO project was carried out in cooperation between hospitals from Hungary, Slovakia and Ukraine with the aim of improving access to preventive healthcare services in the border region. The partners focused on preventive ultrasound screening activities, the procurement of modern medical equipment and the development of common professional protocols supporting cross-border healthcare cooperation.
The project also highlighted the importance of prevention and early detection. Many health conditions can remain symptom-free for a long time, while affected persons are often unaware of existing abnormalities. Preventive screenings therefore play an important role in identifying diseases at an early stage, even before symptoms appear.
During the project, four ultrasound devices were procured for the participating hospitals. The Hungarian partner purchased one gynecological and one general ultrasound device, while the Slovak and Ukrainian partners each procured 1 complex ultrasound device (both general and gynecological specialty). Screening activities carried out during the project included carotid artery ultrasound examinations, gynecological ultrasound examinations, cervical cancer screening, clinical breast examinations and general abdominal ultrasound examinations. Professional workshops were organised and common professional protocols were developed jointly by the partners. Altogether, 1334 persons participated in the screening activities, and several examinations identified previously unknown abnormalities requiring further medical follow-up.
The project also strengthened long-term professional cooperation between the participating institutions and helped improve access to healthcare services closer to the place of residence of the local population.
