The InterCities project aims to enrich the multicultural heritage of the cross-border region by fostering cooperation between Ukraine and Romania. It directly addresses the need for greater social tolerance toward national minorities and ethnic groups by raising public awareness and developing cultural tourist attractions. Project activities will help residents and visitors better understand the region’s multicultural heritage and promote mutual tolerance through the discovery, preservation, and promotion of shared history.
The project strengthens intercultural dialogue and cooperation by rehabilitating two significant cultural sites – the Potocki Palace in Ivano-Frankivsk and the Maramureș Village Museum in Sighetu Marmației. These efforts will be complemented by new cultural routes and cross-border events, enhancing the region’s appeal to visitors.
Among other initiatives, the project will host two festivals and thematic forums in partner cities, organize an architecture camp for students in Sighet, develop alternative cultural routes linked to the Carpathian Cultural Route, and hold stakeholder meetings and student lectures.
By combining infrastructure improvements with awareness-raising activities, the project will promote heritage preservation, encourage tourism growth, and foster lasting connections between communities. Additionally, it will establish a network of experts in intercultural cooperation, ensuring sustainable collaboration and integrating local heritage into the broader European cultural space.
