The OTRACON SK-UA project addresses the urgent need for coordinated transport planning between Slovakia and Ukraine, prompted by the unexpected increase in mobility following the war in Ukraine. It focuses on updating and harmonising transport models (TM) in Eastern Slovakia and Western Ukraine to improve traffic flow and reduce bottlenecks at border crossings. A key goal is the joint identification of optimal border crossing points and capacities for all modes of transport, based on data-driven assessments.
Planned activities include feasibility studies (e.g., the reconstruction of the Solomonovo–Velyka Dobron–Yanoshi motor road), harmonised infrastructure planning, and the design of efficient cross-border public transport services. The project supports better accessibility, lowers operational costs, reduces emissions, and enhances cooperation in the transport sector through shared methodologies and continuous exchange.
The expected results include optimised transport infrastructure, shorter travel times, improved public transport planning, and stronger institutional collaboration between both countries—laying the groundwork for a lasting cross-border transport community.
