As part of the WeVaRe project (“Introduction of Monitoring the Wetlands of International Importance in The Carpathian Region” ), a series of environmental education and awareness-raising activities for school pupils was organized in educational institutions of the Kolochava and Synevyr territorial communities in Zakarpattia Oblast, Ukraine, in April 2026. The activities were implemented by the Ukrainian project partners – Uzhhorod National University and Synevyr National Nature Park – with the aim of increasing pupils’ awareness of the importance of wetlands, their crucial role in biodiversity conservation, and their contribution to maintaining ecological balance in the Carpathian region.
During the events, pupils had the opportunity to explore modern environmental monitoring equipment and learn about current environmental challenges facing Ukraine through practical demonstrations and interactive discussions. Special attention was devoted to the protected ecosystems of the Synevyr National Nature Park, which serves as one of the key centres for the preservation of natural heritage and sustainable ecosystem management in the Ukrainian Carpathians. These educational initiatives contribute to the development of environmental responsibility among young people, encourage a deeper understanding of nature conservation, and emphasize the importance of protecting natural resources for future generations.
