MMIFF2026 – Maramureș International Film Festival 2026

August 19–23, 2026, the Maramureș Village Museum in Sighetu Marmației will host MMIFF2026 – Maramureș International Film Festival 2026, as part of the project “Intercultural Consciousness of Multinational Cities: Tolerance of New Generations – InterCities”, funded by the Interreg VI-A NEXT Hungary–Slovakia–Romania–Ukraine Programme and implemented in partnership with the Executive Committee of the Ivano-Frankivsk City Council, acting as Lead Partner. As the coordinator of the InterCities project, the Maramureș Museum invites audiences to rediscover the magic of Maramureș’s cultural heritage through five evenings of cinema, where local tradition meets contemporary film art. Screenings will take place outdoors at the Maramureș Village Museum, between 9:30 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. Out of more than 2,000 short films submitted, the competitive sections feature productions from Romania, Moldova, Hungary, Ukraine, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Cyprus, Israel, the Czech Republic, Germany, Cuba, China, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, and Canada. The official competition will showcase films that have already enjoyed an outstanding festival run throughout 2025 and 2026, including works selected and awarded at internationally renowned festivals such as Locarno, Sundance, Venice, Berlin, and Annecy. The official competition will open with the short film PRIMARY EDUCATION, directed by Aria Sánchez and Marina Meira, a Cuba–Spain–Brazil co-production that received the Best Director Award at the 2025 Locarno Film Festival. In addition to the competitive short film sections, the festival will also feature Romanian feature films. On the festival’s final day, audiences will have the opportunity to meet the talented young actress Denisa Vraja, a native of Maramureș, who will take part in a Q&A session following the screening of the feature film ON OUR OWN (De Capul Nostru), directed by Tudor Cristian Jurgiu, in which she plays the leading role. Admission is free, and audiences are invited to vote for the Audience Award. MMIFF2026 Organizer & Producer: Yakasha Film Festival Director: Dragoș Iuga
