A meeting of the Transport Commission of the Prešov Self-Governing Region was held at the premises of IDS Východ, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss strategic transport and mobility issues in the region.
The Commission serves as an important advisory body contributing to the formulation of regional transport policies and strategic decision-making. The meeting confirmed its role as a platform for professional dialogue between the regional authority, expert organisations and other stakeholders.
The main topics discussed included:
- evaluation of the winter season in terms of road maintenance efficiency,
- assessment of the impact of rising fuel prices on the cost structure of suburban bus transport,
- overview of current activities and expert work in transport planning and mobility.
The agenda also included the presentation of selected project activities carried out by IDS Východ, particularly in the field of international transport cooperation. In this context, the OTRACON SK–UA project was introduced as an example of an initiative supporting transport planning in the Slovak-Ukrainian border region through data-driven and analytical approaches.
The presentation provided participants with an overview of the project’s direction, its partnership structure, and expected outputs. These outputs have the potential to complement existing decision-making tools and support more efficient planning of transport, mobility, and regional tourism development.
The subsequent discussion brought forward practical inputs from representatives of the regional administration and expert institutions, highlighting specific territorial needs. Incorporating these insights into the ongoing project activities may further enhance the usability of its results for public sector stakeholders on both sides of the border.
The meeting once again underlined the importance of the Transport Commission as a key expert body linking strategic governance with analytical expertise and current trends in transport and mobility.
