CommunitAID proposes that Maramures and Ivano-Frankivsk become together communities of resources in teaching first aid. Both in the educational curricula in Romania and Ukraine, first aid is not part of teachers’ or students’ trainings curricula and the costs for such a course are high.
The project aims to equip 90 teachers from both regions with train of trainers skills in first aid. Each trained teacher will organize first aid courses for students in their own school or use the new established first aid training hubs opened in 6 locations in the two regions. We will ensure first aid school yard trainings for students from 20 schools (over 1200 students) and equip them with first aid equipment. Awareness and engaging events shall be organized around our trainings. Additionally, 6 first aid hubs will be set up in different school locations from MM and Ivano F, endowed with proper training materials and a mini-bus to allow for students from the near locations to travel and be trained here. Mini-buses will have the role of pediatric emergency transportation for both communities. A caravan for awareness in learning first aid will be conducted in each region led by doctors and residents.
Our cascade method of teaching is the real innovator: train teachers who can train further other teachers and students, set up physical establishments and equip them for proper use (6 training hubs), organize school yard first aid training and a caravan creating sufficient buzz and awareness in order to raise the interest of all schools from MM and Ivano F in using our resources. Starting with 1500 trained persons, our project has the potential to multiply this number ten-fold and become a landmark educational tool for the area.
The cross-border cooperation is crucial: we will have the same content in teaching first aid to teachers and students, we will mark that we are in a common learning process, conduct a joint training and a caravan together as well as share resources.
