The project “Strengthening cooperation between public authorities and civil organizations for the protection of natural areas” aims to enhance cross-border cooperation between Romanian and Ukrainian stakeholders to address pressing environmental challenges. Its primary objective is to develop a Joint Action Plan, which will serve as a strategic framework for coordinated efforts to protect forests and other valuable natural habitats in the border region.
Following the completion of the plan, a joint exercise will be conducted to evaluate and strengthen the practical cooperation between the involved teams. Given the mounting pressures on the environment from human activity—especially in areas such as Suceava County, which holds Romania’s largest forested territory—the project recognises the urgent need for collaborative and sustained intervention.
By facilitating coordinated action, improving institutional capacities, and reinforcing joint responses, the project supports both local conservation goals and broader European environmental objectives. It ultimately contributes to the protection of natural biodiversity, the integrity of green infrastructure, and the reduction of environmental degradation in the border region.
